Here's to another movie you can bet your bottom dollar will be on my favorite films of 2021 list😄 As simplistic as "Ron's Gone Wrong" can feel at times, it is sincerely funny, heartwarming, and an all around good time for the family!
The film revolves around a socially awkward middle school aged boy named Barney (voiced by Jack Dylan Grazer), who resides in a home that really sticks out among the rest, with his father (voiced by Ed Helms), and his Grandmother/Donka (voiced by Olivia Colman). Barney is the only kid in his school, probably in the world...not to own the latest breakthrough in technology...the B-Bot ( a walking, talking robot, that is every kid's new best friend "right out of the box"). It's Barney's birthday, and after dropping many hints, he is highly anticipating a B-Bot as a present from his father, and Donka...but alas, disappointment😕 That is until his father witnesses the bullying of his son from some schoolmates who have the privilege of owning a B-Bot. The next morning, Barney has quite the surprise waiting for him in more ways than one! His father, and Donka went and got him a B-Bot (how they got the B-Bot, is another story for another time😂) Barney is so excited to get his own personal B-Bot all set up before school, but something is seriously wrong😬 This B-Bot is not like the others, with glitches galore! Barney later names his B-Bot, Ron (voiced by Zack Galifinakis), and while at first he is unhappy about the glitches, Barney eventually begins to realizes that Ron really is not like the others, and they begin to form a bond of friendship. Of course the movie cannot go on without conflict, and there is plenty of that! Barney deals with bullying at school, which is a sad situation since it is from kids that he used to be friends with when he was younger, that now act all cool because they have so many followers and such in the online world. Once the kids start to find out that Ron is not like the other B-Bot's, the company that created them, "Bubble" (a spin on "Apple") gets involved in searching for him and Barney, which leads to some pretty harsh, but necessary realizations.
I have to say that I have been looking forward to this film, and it was as good as I was expecting it to be💚 It is a simple, but highly enjoyable little animated flick, with humor and heart to spare! I'm not sure if anyone else will get the same feel from this as me, but at times the atmosphere reminded me a bit of "The Iron Giant", a beloved movie from the 1990's that I just watched for the first time about a month ago, and absolutely loved!
I personally think this is a film that the entire family can enjoy, and appreciate! The kids will absolutely love the colorful B-Bot's and their fun, modern capabilities, while the adults will probably enjoy the humor just as much as the kids😊
When I first saw the trailer for "Ron's Gone Wrong", it reminded me slightly of the recent Netflix film "The Mitchell's Vs. The Machines" which I will go ahead and say is my favorite film so far this year, and I was worried that this was gonna be a bit too similar...fortunately "Ron's Gone Wrong" holds it's own ground, and in my opinion is just as or almost as good!
Consensus: I absolutely loved "Ron's Gone Wrong"! A heartfelt, feel good romp, that includes important messages regarding consequences that can come from dumb choices on social media, and bullying. I highly recommend taking the family or kiddos to the theater to see it😉🎬
"Ron's Gone Wrong" is now playing exclusively in movie theaters🎬🍿🎟
