What happens when you take multiple plot elements of "A Christmas Story" and mix it with the nostalgic childhood fun of the late 1980's....you get the delight that is "8-BIT Christmas"

💚❤️🕹🎅🎄🎬

I believe the phrase I used while watching this was "This is the kind of 80's nostalgic fun I live for"! The plot of the film is pretty simple, and honestly nothing we haven't seen before, but the fun 80's nostalgia, humor, and surprisingly heartwarming message at the end (one that kids of today could REALLY take something from...lol) makes this a great time for the entire family!

The film begins in present day, as Jake Doyle (played by Neil Patrick Harris) returning from Christmas shopping with his daughter, Annie (played by Sophia Reid-Gantzert) and headed back to his family home. She is nagging at him to use his phone so that she can text her friends, since she doesn't have one herself (smart of dad), but Dad does not give in. While they await for the rest of the family to return home, Jake shows Annie (still driving him crazy to use his phone) his old Nintendo NES system from back in the 80's. Explaining to her that even his parents wouldn't get him the Nintendo, Annie is curious how in the world he got the Nintendo then, which we then flashback to the late 1980's where Jake (younger version played by Winslow Fegley) begins to tell the EPIC story of his quest to get his hands on the most popular item of the Holiday season...back then🕹🎁🤯🎄

I personally I had a really fun time watching "8-Bit Christmas"! As I mentioned, it will definitely remind you of "A Christmas Story" at times (of course not as iconic), but the humor provokes some belly laughs, and I personally thought the message at the end (which I won't spoil) was really nice and well done, even though some may think the story was pointless then🤷‍♂️

The film even features some really cool practical effects, and honestly reminded me of a more simpler time in filmmaking. Even though I wasn't born in the 80's (1991 baby right here)...I wish I was born back then😂 Life seemed more bright, upbeat, and less divisive!

Consensus: "8-BIT Christmas" is simply a slice of holiday throwback fun for the entire family🕹✨💚🎄 Kids will get a kick out of the humor, and maybe even learn something from the message at the end....

(I said maybe)😂

**8-BIT Christmas" is streaming exclusively on HBO MAX**

The Ray J's Review Rating is

4.5 out of 5 sprinkles of plenty of Christmas Merry for your Monday

💚❤️✨🎄&1/2
