Greetings fellow movie loversšš¬š My first new movie review of the year is here! "The 355" stars Jessica Chastain, Lupita N'Yongo, Penelope Cruz, Dianne Kruger, Bingbing Fan, and Sebastian Stan. Desperate to be somewhere in the veins of Charlie's Angels and James Bond, unfortunately this film does not hit the targetš¤·āāļø
The film revolves around a group of all women, all international spies with different skills, and abilities. Mace (played by Jessica Chastain ), a CIA officer whom is currently under investigation, Khadijah (played by Lupita N'Yongo) a former MI6 agent who knows how to handle a computer, Marie (played by Diane Kruger) an agent of the BND in Germany, and Graciela (played by Penelope Cruz) a certified therapist, and agent for the DNI in Colombia who wrongly gets caught up in the mess that she is about to endure. While not all on the same team at first, these ladies soon discover that they are after the same thing...the people who have their hands on a highly dangerous hard drive that can be used to hack into literally any electronic device around the world...planes (to make them crash), traffic lights (to switch up the pattern) anything you can think of. Can these women work together, and put their special skills to good use, before it's too late?
While I wouldn't say "The 355" is unwatchable, it definitely isn't anything we haven't seen time after time before! It's completely unoriginal, (and sometimes I could care less if a movie takes an original approach or not, but this was just completely mehš)
As for acting performance standouts in the movie, I thought that Penelope Cruz as Graciela was pretty great, as was Lupita N'Yongo as Khadijah! They both have some particularly emotional moments throughout, especially in this one scene that takes place just before the third act, which I'm not gonna lie left me a lil bit shookš³
Consensus: "The 355" is of the utmost unoriginal, and definitely not a must see! However, I will say that I've seen much worse, and it was slightly better than I was expectingš
