While "Halloween Kills" tends to be a bit all over the place as characters are split up, the film however amps up the gore, emotion, and to my surprise, the humor from the prior 2018 installment🎃🔪
They should've LET IT BURN🔥 Picking up right where "Halloween" (2018) left off, literally (it's still Halloween night 2018 this entire movie as well), serial killer Michael Myers rises from the flames of the fiery trap set by Laurie Strode (played by Jamie Lee Curtis), after a team of firefighters make the huge mistake of trying to put out the fire. Meanwhile, Laurie, her daughter Karen (played by Judy Greer), and her granddaughter Allyson (played by Andi Matichak) make their way to the Haddonfield Hospital to get emergency help for her stabbing injuries. While Laurie is undergoing emergency surgery, Karen, and Allyson are informed by Haddonfield's Sheriff Barker (played by Omar Dorsey), that Michael survived the fire, and is out for blood...again! After hearing about the bloodshed that happened earlier in the evening, familiar faces from the past want in on defeating Michael for good, and begin to rally up strong Haddonfield civilians who are willing to go around and search for him, and kill him! While Karen does not want Laurie to know that Michael made it out of that fire, even after years of preparation to trap him, she of course eventually finds out! Unfortunately, her injuries prevent her from helping in the hunt with the rest of the town. Allyson teams up with her boyfriend Cameron (played by Dylan Arnold, who you may remember from the previous film, and whom we last saw at the high school Halloween dance after an argument between the two), and his father Lonnie (played by Robert Longstreet - a character from one of the older "Halloween" films), to help the people of Haddonfield take down Michael for good! There's just one problem, maybe this "Evil" cannot be killed😳
As I mentioned in my opening statement, "Halloween Kills" can get a bit all over the place at times, and actually tends to focus more on the citizens of Haddonfield and Michael than anything. Jamie Lee Curtis (as Laurie Strode) doesn't get to do much action in the movie due to her character's injuries, but I will say that Judy Greer (as her daughter Karen) steals the show again, as she did in the 2018 film. I also thought that Kyle Richards (who plays Lindsey, a surviving character from the original 1978 "Halloween film) also did a great job with her performance!
I happened to re-watch "Halloween" (2018) earlier this afternoon before heading out this evening to see "Halloween Kills", and what's kind of clever is that there are some extremely minor characters from the 2018 film, that reappear here, and have a pretty decent part in the movie. I mean you really don't need to, but I honestly recommend watching "Halloween" (2018) again, just before you see "Halloween Kills" so you can see what I mean!
Of course "Halloween Kills" is incredibly brutal, and way more gory than "Halloween" (2018), but something that surprised me was the subtle humor throughout! I mean there were times where the audience was genuinely laughing😂
Consensus: I think that if you enjoy most of the "Halloween" franchise films, then you are most likely bound to like "Halloween Kills". It's scary, brutally gory, sometimes emotional, and subtly humorous at times!
