Based on the beloved children's books series, "Clifford The Big Red Dog" is of the utmost average family movie going experiences, but I have no doubt that this is gonna be a hit with the kiddos❤️🐶
The film centers around a young middle school aged girl named Emily Elizabeth (played by Darby Camp), who deals with some bullying at school due to the fact that she doesn't fit in😕 While her mom goes on a business trip, Emily's Uncle Casey (played by Jack Whitehall) comes to stay with her. Uncle Casey agrees to take Emily Elizabeth by a pet adoption fair at the park on her way into school, where they meet a mysterious man named Mr. Bridwell (named after the creator of the Clifford character, Norman Bridwell, and played by John Cleese). After browsing some exotic, and even odd animals, Mr. Bridwell introduces Emily to the most cuddly, affectionate, RED puppy you've ever seen in your life. However her Uncle Casey is afraid of what her mom might think if he allowed Emily Elizabeth to bring home a velvety red puppy without her permission, and while out of town at that. So, they leave. After a tough day at school, Emily Elizabeth returns home emotional and upset, but to her happy surprise that little red puppy has somehow found his way into her backpack🤔 Of course Uncle Casey finds out, and tells her that they must return him in the morning. Well it just so happens that it might be magic, and fate that has brought these two different species together for one reason that is the same (they are alike), and that their love for one another can make each other braver❤️💪 I think you know where we're headed now...the next morning Emily wakes up, and that little red puppy isn't so little anymore....in fact he is BIG! Now, Emily Elizabeth, and her Uncle Casey (who is a nervous wreck), must figure out how to keep this BIG secret hidden from the landlord, and a genetics company whose owner see's a viral video of the now officially named "Clifford", and wants to take him!
While "Clifford The Big Red Dog" isn't a particularly well made movie, it is enjoyable, and very sweet☺️❤️🐶 To be honest, some of the humor is pretty good too, and I think both kids and their family's will crack up😂
Of course the story is a bit sappy, and one we've seen plenty of times before, but who cares...as long as the movie is enjoyable, and it is! I thought Jack Whitehall who plays Uncle Casey was so much fun! I also really enjoyed his performance in the recent Disney "Jungle Cruise" film as well! You can't forget Darby Camp, who was delightful as usual too!
One thing I will say that may bother people is the CGI of Clifford, as it is quite inconsistent and wonky at times...especially in the beginning when he is a puppy🤷♂️
Consensus: If you can keep your mind off of the iffy CGI, and realize that the film is generic enjoyment, but isn't a game changer, then you should be all set to let the love of "Clifford The Big Red Dog" into you heart❤️
