Ray J's Review - Disney's "Encanto"

While I wouldn't say "Encanto" is as adventurous as some of Disney's latest animated musical efforts, such as "Moana" or "Frozen", it is still without a doubt an entertaining and beautiful film to behold✨🌸👂💪

"Encanto" follows The Madrigal family, who reside in an enchanted Colombian home that literally bursts with magic in every corner! The magic of their Encanto (home) has granted each child of the Madrigal family with a special gift! Strength, food recipes that heal, just to name a few. Everyone has been blessed with a gift, except for the quirky and super caring Mirabel (voiced by Stephanie Beatriz). On the eve of when her cousin Antonio (voiced by Ravi-Cabot Conyers) is supposed to receive his unique gift, Mirabel has a vision of sorts that the magic of the Encanto could be in trouble😳 Abuela (voiced by Maria Cecilia Botero), basically the foundation of the family, sadly treats Mirabel differently ever since she did not receive a gift, and while Mirabel tries to warn her family of the impending danger to their Encanto, Abuela overlooks her warning and does not speak to her in a very nice tone! So, as a person that cares about their family should do, Mirabel takes the mystery into her own hands, in hopes of saving her home, and with the hopeful feeling that maybe her family will be proud of her if she succeeds😕

I personally really enjoyed "Encanto", and it has everything I look for when going into a Disney animated movie💚 The animation is of course top notch, so vivid and colorful🤩 The story is incredibly well done, and a perfect film to watch with your family this thanksgiving weekend! There is a nice message of self worth, and not needing to prove yourself to others. I thought that was great, and I think that's for sure a message people need to hear at times🙂 I thought it was well done how some of the siblings were struggling with the pressure of trying to keep up an image with their abilities. Sometimes you just have to let your feelings out! Forget your image, and what people think of you!

Let's talk about the music now🎶 I will say that when I initially listened to the soundtrack, and had not seen the movie yet, the music didn't really click with me. Not like the music of "Moana" did. I still don't think it's one of the best Disney animated soundtracks ever, but still the songs are fun nonetheless🎶😄

Even though there are A LOT of characters, the majority of them get a chance to sing! My personal favorite songs are: "The Family Madrigal" (the opening song: a let's just say *chaotic* introduction to a chaotic household), We Don't Talk About Bruno" (a song about Mirabel's Uncle Bruno who has been exiled from the family after some stuff went down), even Mirabel's sisters Isabela (voiced by Diane Guerrero), and Luisa (voiced by Jessica Darrow) have their own solos (probably my favorite two songs in the film). "Surface Pressure" (Luisa's song), and "What Else Can I Do?" (Isabela's song).

Consensus: While it's lacking a bit in the adventure department, "Encanto" is everything you love about Disney! It's simply magical, with a family centric story (perfect for the holidays), colorful visuals....fun songs✨💚🎬🎶👍👍
