"He's All That" (a gender swapped remake of the 1999 film "She's All That"....which I will also go ahead and put out there I have never seen) is really nothing but teenage TIK TOK cheese, however I found it overall mostly enjoyable, with a nice message in the end.
The film centers around Padgett, a self care social media influencer (played by real life social media star Addison Rae). After her embarrassing breakup from her boyfriend, social media influencer/hip hop artist, Jordan Van Draanen (played by Peyton Meyer) goes viral, her sponsor (played by Kourtney Kardashian) drops her. Now in a panic, Padgett's stuck up - fake friend, Alden (played by Madison Pettis) hatches a "devious" dare for Padgett to pick one loser of a guy in the high school who could never win prom king and give him a makeover in hopes that will reinvigorate her followers, and get her sponsor back. Unfortunately for Padgett, things begin to backfire after one of her friend's mischievous secrets is revealed, and as she begins to fall for Cameron (played by Tanner Buchanan) the guy she picked for the dare/makeover.
"He's All That" is not memorable...like at all...but it is pretty enjoyable in the moment, and I did appreciate some of the messages. One quote really stuck out to me "High school is filled with people pretending to be someone they are not"...ain't that the truth! I'm sure that's the case even more so nowadays.
The film takes place in California, where a lot of the real life social media influencers live, and a lot of the characters were so freaking obnoxious & fake! I can see it really being that way in high school out there.....ICK!!!!
I appreciated some of messages of the film that were passed along, such as a lot of these social media influencers that kids and teens look up to are very fake, and are paid to post what looks like a perfect life. What you see on social media does't always tell the whole story, or show the whole picture of what's going on in a person's life.
As far as acting performances, I thought they were pretty average, but Addison Rae, was pretty good in her first acting role!
I personally enjoyed the movie's soundtrack too! It primarily features pop/EDM music, and a cover + dance remix of the 90's song "Kiss Me" performed by CYN (originally by Sixpence None The Richer). Apparently it was featured in the original film.
There is also a pretty fun, and well-choreographed Dance - Off scene towards the end of the flick! I mean who doesn't love one of those😂
While I wouldn't say "He's All That" is a must watch, I would say that it's a fun cheese fest, that I think TIK TOK obsessed teenagers will enjoy the most!
