Good evening everyone! I have a new movie review for you all of the predictable, however pleasant just released HBO Max Original romantic comedy, "Moonshot" starring Cole Sprouse, and Lana Condor🙂🚀
The film - set sometime in the unclear, not so distant future - revolves around two young adults, Walt (played by Cole Sprouse) and Sophie (played by Lana Condor) - both on a mission to get to Mars so they can reunite with loved ones who now reside there! Walt, has always wanted to go up to Space ever since he was a small child. After many failed attempts at applying for a program that somehow gets you up there, he is scheming to come up with another way. After all, as you'll soon find out, there are very few ways you can be chosen to go to space. Either you pay for it, or you have to be qualified with an extremely high IQ. After meeting who he thinks is the love of his life at a party the evening prior, Walt runs into Sophie (a girl who he barely knows) at his Barista job, where she is sulking in sadness from wanting to travel to Mars so she can reunite with her boyfriend Calvin (played by Mason Gooding) and his family. Unaware of Sophie's wealth status, Walt tries to make her feel better by stating that either way you'd have to be a genius or fork over just under a million dollars to purchase a shuttle ticket to get up there. Walt, sitting there with a shocked look on his face, Sophie goes on to explain: that first of all she didn't realize you could do that, and second of all that she is perfectly financed enough to purchase a ticket, but cannot work up the nerve to do so, because she has a fear of flying. Even though Walt has some tricks up his sleeves, he somehow boosts Sophie's confidence enough for her to buy a ticket. Sophie isn't too fond of Walt to begin with since he accidentally shattered something valuable of hers at the party, so when she see's him sneak up behind her as she's preparing to go to the gate for her space shuttle, she can just tell he is up to something. Walt, convinces Sophie to sneak him back by where the Shuttles take off so he can see them launch off, something that he has wanted to see up close his whole life (no lie there), but what he didn't tell Sophie is that he was going to sneak on to the shuttle so that he can get to Mars to reunite with Ginny (played by Emily Rudd), the girl from the party who literally just left and who he thinks is the love of his life. Once they reach zero gravity, and Sophie realizes that she had a surprise named Walt waiting for her, things get a bit complicated in the technical department😬 Let's just say these two will be spending WAAAAAY more time together than they could've ever imagined, but may also learn that they are not so different after all😄🚀💚
I have to say when I started "Moonshot", I was not expecting to finish it and think to myself that this was one of the best movies I've seen so far this year, but you know what...I did!
I found this film to be amusing, and I really took to the impressive - colorful visuals! I also thought there was some really well touched upon subjects featured, such as fairness and wealth. Walt, a hard worker, not a genius, but extremely knowledgeable about space, couldn't secure a spot to go up, and then you have Sophie, a trust fund kid (there's more to that story that I won't spoil), who's afraid of flying and just wants to get to her boyfriend, is just able to buy a $900,000 + ticket to space at the touch of a button. How is that right?
I thought Cole Sprouse, and Lana Condor were both superb in the lead roles, and I also have to give a shout out to Michelle Buteau who plays the captain of the space shuttle (Captain Tarter). Loved her! She was hilarious😂 Kinda wish she was in the movie more often!
Consensus: "Moonshot" is a delightful and bubbly space-centric romantic-comedy filled with bright and colorful visuals that my eyes took to🚀🤩💚
"Moonshot" is streaming exclusively on HBO Max
