Good morning everyonešāļøš¬ Today, I have a short, but sweet movie review for you all of the new NETFLIX original film "The Royal Treatment", starring Laura Marano, and Mena Massoud (from Disney's live-action "Aladdin").
The romantic comedy follows a loud & proud New York based hairdresser named Izzy (played by Laura Marano), who gets the chance of a lifetime after her family's salon is asked to work for the upcoming wedding of Prince Thomas of Lavania (played by Mena Massoud). While her Mom and Nona stay back in NY to take care of their salon, Izzy, and her hilarious co-workers, Destiny (played by Chelsea Preston-Crawford), and Lola (played by Grace Bentley-Tsibuah) head off to Lavania to prep for the big day. Before too long, sparks begin to fly between Prince Thomas, and Izzy...which is no surprise since the big wedding is an arranged marriage and neither Prince Thomas or his bride, Lauren (played by Phoenix Connolly) are in love with each other, and are more so going through with it to appease the kingdom, and their parents. Let's just say things get complicated as alwaysš
In all honesty, this movie isn't the worst I've ever seen on Netflix, but it also isn't super great either! It does have some aspects that I enjoyed, but overall it's pretty underwhelming, and a highly generic royal movie.
One thing I particularly enjoyed about the film was the humorš Izzy's salon mates are very funny, and they were probably my favorite part of the film!
Normally I'm not a huge fan of Laura Marano...I found her to be pretty annoying on Disney Channel's "Austin & Ally" (although that show was excessively annoying in general), but I didn't mind her here. I mean the fake New Yorker accent wasn't the greatest, but to be honest I got a kick out of itš
Mena Massoud was alright I guess...it's unfortunate that he hasn't gotten much work since Aladdin (2019), because I personally thought he was fantastic in that!
Consensus: Overall, "The Royal Treatment" is not shiny, shimmering or splendid, but still better than some films NETFLIX has put out! The humor, and banter from the salon girls is a highlightšāāļøšāāļøš
