Hiya everyone! Officially kicking off my "The Movies Are My Getaway" movie review series is my take on the 2014 Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore comedy "Blended"🤔🎬
The film kicks off with Sandler and Barrymore's character's, Jim, and Lauren on a disaster of a blind date...at Hooters of all places🤦♂️ Thinking they'll never see each other again after....THAT....they go back to their respective families. Along with her good friend Jen (played by Wendi McLendon-Covey), Lauren works as a home closet organizer and is a single mother of two boys, Brendan (played by Braxton Beckham), and Tyler (played by Kyle Red Silverstein)...also dealing with her jerky ex-husband, Mark (played by Joel McHale) not showing up for them. Jim is the manager at the local Dicks Sporting Goods, also a single parent after his wife passed of Cancer, and father of three girls, Hilary (played by Bella Thorne), Espn (played by Emma Furhmann), and Lou (played by Alyvia Alyn-Lind). After a credit card mix-up during an embarrassing second encounter at the drug store, Jim shows up at Lauren's home to swap their cards back, but in the mean time Jen shows up distraught about her breakup from the guy she was dating (who also happens to be Jim's boss, Dick of Dicks Sporting Goods🤣). They were supposed to go on vacation to a resort in Africa, but then Jen found out he has.....wait for it.....kids😳😂 Without each other knowing, Jim secures the vacation for his family after contacting Dick, and at the same time Lauren convinces Jen to let her and the boys go (after Mark ditches his son's, having planned a week full of fun activities). Shocked to see each other...AGAIN in Africa Jim, and Lauren learn that they will have to be together during the entire trip since their vacation package is apart of a special blended family-moon week, where they will spend time together with other couples and their families. You never know though, by the end of this of this vacation, Jim, Lauren and their kids may just find themselves "Blending"😄
While "Blended" does have a bit of a rocky first thirty minutes, it's an overall fun time for fans of Adam Sandler, and Drew Barrymore🙂 It just does take a little bit to get going...Also, some of the acting from the kids is pretty darn terrible🤐
This is an Adam Sandler movie we're talking about, so some may find it dumb or stupid, but his audience will most likely enjoy!
Once the film arrives in Africa, it suddenly feels like an escape. Jumping from hilarious getaway activity, and mishap to the next! You truly feel like you're on vacation with these characters!! In my opinion the middle chunk of the film is the funniest, and most enjoyable part😄
I also think that I took to this movie more than some would, because I can relate to it. I am very lucky and blessed to be apart of a blended family that loves each other and gets along...it's a beautiful thing💚
Consensus: While "Blended" isn't mixed to perfection, it is fun, relatable, and still falls under the small handful of better Adam Sandler films released over the past ten-fifteen years🙂
