🎶Hey now🎶Hey now🎶 Happy Monday all!! This week for my "The Movies Are My Getaway" movie review, let's head to Rome with Hilary Duff in "The Lizzie McGuire Movie"😄
Anyone that was a tween from the year 2000 - 2003 should remember the beloved coming of age Disney Channel series "Lizzie McGuire", chronicling the character's many growing pains & embarrassing moments, plus an animated representation of her inner thoughts. Well, in this theatrical 2003 release, Lizzie (played by Hilary Duff), heads off to Italy on a high school transition trip, with her best friend David "Gordo" Gordon (played by Adam Lamberg), and the rest of her former classmates, including characters from the show, Kate Sanders (played by Ashlie Brillault), and Ethan Craft (played by Clayton Snyder). Keeping a watchful chaperone's eye on this group of soon to be high schooler's is Ms. Ungermeyer (played fantastically by Alex Borstein), who will also be their high school principal. Once in Rome, Lizzie and Gordo make a pact that they will promise to find adventure in Italy. The next day, while on a tour stop at the Trevi Fountain, Lizzie closes her eyes, tosses a coin and makes a wish. When she opens her eyes she is surprised to see a young man staring at her, who later explains to her and Gordo that his name is Paolo (played by Yani Gellman) and was apart of a very famous music duo with his partner Isabella who he is no longer with, and the best part....Lizzie could literally be Isabella's twin🤯 Swooning for this young Italian superstar, Lizzie takes an interest in learning about Paolo and Isabela's music, and just when you think this trip couldn't get any better, Paolo asks Lizzie if she'll pretend to be Isabella, so she can present an award with him at the Italian music video awards. Little does Lizzie know, Paolo is hiding a shocking secret that might just lead to the most embarrassing moment of her life🙂 Will Lizzie's adventure end in embarrassment, or in a moment that dreams are made of?
Sure some of the plot can be a bit silly and there's really not much to it, but "The Lizzie McGuire Movie" is truly a getaway movie and such a breezy watch! Simple as that!
I was a huge fan of Lizzie McGuire when it aired on Disney Channel, and I wish that things had worked out for the Disney + reboot😕
Disney you need to apologize to Hilary Duff for canceling production of the reboot because you can't handle an adult Lizzie McGuire
Anyways😂 Alex Borstein as Ms. Ungermeyer is absolutely hilarious (definitely the standout character), and of course Hilary Duff as Lizzie McGuire is incredibly charming!
The film also has an insanely listenable soundtrack, which (fun fact) after many years of not being released on digital music platforms or streaming services, the album was just released late last year in 2021🙌
Consensus: There's no need to overthink thing on vacation anyways...so relax your mind, feel the Italian breeze and maybe, just maybe, you'll discover 🎶What Dreams Are Made Of🎶
